Bharti Airtel Limited (NSE: BHARTIARTL, BSE: 532454) has upgraded its AI-powered spam detection system to combat a 12% surge in international fraudulent calls, as it introduced multilingual alerts for 550 million+ users in India.

Key Enhancements:

  • Global SPAM Scanning: Now screens calls/SMS from international networks
  • Vernacular Alerts: Displays warnings in 10 languages (Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, etc.)
  • Auto-Activation: Free for all Airtel users; Android-exclusive language support

The upgraded tool has already flagged 27.5 billion spam calls (1,560/sec) since its September 2024 launch, reducing unwanted calls by 16%. Recent data shows scammers shifted to foreign networks after domestic crackdowns, prompting this expansion.

Siddharth Sharma, Director of Marketing at Airtel, stated: “Our linguistically diverse customer base demanded localized solutions. Combined with international scanning, this upgrade ensures comprehensive protection against evolving spam tactics.”

The technical specifications include support for various languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Punjabi, and Telugu. Currently, the vernacular alerts are designed specifically for Android devices. Looking ahead, there are plans to expand the language offerings and integrate with iOS, which are currently in the development phase.
