The Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal just announced an ambitious target of a whopping $100 billion towards combined exports of Food & Beverage, agriculture, and marine in the next five years. The announcement was made during the 8th edition of IndusFood 2025 organized in New Delhi. He added that it requires an annual growth rate of around 14 to 15 percent to actualize this.
The Minister hailed APEDA and MPEDA for $50 billion exports that they have already contributed to the sector. He emphasized that innovation, sustainability, and quality high production are critical needs for ever-increasing global demand.
This challenge, however, has been accepted by the government through 100 percent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the F&B Sector, thus permitting easy foreign ownership and management.
Setting up expanded food testing laboratories and streamlining certification for organic products are some initiatives that boost quality and traceability to the export supply chain. Shri Goyal urged industry stakeholders to bring in advanced technologies instrumental in improving hygiene and efficiency gains in food production. According to him, ready-to-cook products, millets, spices, and organic foods have gained popularity in global markets.
IndusFood, started by the Trade Promotion Council of India in 2017, has created the international platform for Indian exporters to connect to global buyers. With such continued support from the government and collaboration among industries, India is poised to make its global emergence in food exports by 2030.
