Indian Markets on 22 Jan: Stagnant Close with Mixed Performances

Indian equities went into a lull of some sort today, finally closing the Sensex at INR 56,474, quite high. A few other indices gave positive signals too; however, the Indian market showed overall dullness.

The Nifty 50 closed with a small gain because of the IT majors too. Wipro increased by more than 3.8% followed by Infosys, which added more than 3% and TCS with an advance of almost 2.9%. Tech Mahindra and HDFC Bank climbed by 2.4% and 1.8%, respectively, to contribute to the gain. Yet, pressure teamed up with BEL, which went down by over 3% while Tata Motors and Trent fell by more than 2%. Power Grid, Axis Bank, and HDFC Life, too reported a fall of over 1 percent in their stocks, dragging the performance of the total index.

Nifty Bank ended up at INR 48,724 with a slight upward turn in value as HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank advanced beyond 1%. IndusInd Bank as well as ICICI Bank supported the rise, ensuring a slight improvement in banking stocks on the day.

The Nifty Next 50 was around INR 62,865 when it closed, which meant that it went down. The fall was led by Lodha; it fell by more than 6% from the previous day. Thereafter, we had ICICI Prudential fall by greater than or equal to 5%. HAL too lost more than 3% from the previous closed, as did DLF, REC, ICICI General Life Insurance,Naukri, which contributed to selling down market.

BSE 200 closed at INR 10,525, driven by only a few shares. While Bajaj Holdings gained over 4%, Wipro and Infosys each rose by more than 3%. TCS and Cholamandalam finance made strength with over 2%, respectively. Tech Mahindra, Lupin, and Bharat Forge also moved by more than 1%.

Improved sentiment had been anchored by diversified sector-off performances

Safran India Revenue Growth

Safran India expects its revenues to rise almost 70% in 2025, mostly due to Gaganyaan, India’s human spaceflight mission, as well as other private sector deals. The company will shift part of its manufacturing to India and align with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the Gaganyaan mission as part of the government’s “Make In India” initiative.
