The Indian stock market witnessed a modestly positive day today, with the Sensex closing at INR 75,901, posting a small gain. Although the overall mood was static, some stocks supported the indices in ending in the green.
The Nifty 50 finished at INR 22,957, higher by a shade, led by Bajaj Finance that climbed over 4%, supported by Axis Bank and Shriram Finance rising by over 3%. Also lending support to the index strength were Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, and Cipla, all contributing to propel the benchmark index.
The Nifty Bank ended at INR 48,866, up by over 1.6%, boosted by the banking sector’s strong gains. Punjab National Bank was the top gainer, advancing over 4%, followed by AU Small Finance Bank, which also rose over 4%. Axis Bank gained over 3%, while IDFC First Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Bank of Baroda also helped the banking index move higher.
Nifty Next 50 closed at INR 60,912, supported by a strong jump in TVS Motor, up over 5%. Cholamandalam Finance and Union Bank also joined the bandwagon, gaining over 4% each. Stocks such as PNB and Shree Cement provided support to the rally in the broader market.
BSE 200 finished at INR 10,366 with support from Balkrishna Industries, which rallied over 5%, and Cholamandalam Finance, which also advanced similarly. Bank of India contributed over 4%, while TVS Motor, Mahindra & Mahindra Finance, Union Bank, and PNB supported the up move.
Today’s session was still largely green, with little selling pressure. Nearly all indices closed on a high note, experiencing a minor push. Although the overall market continued to indicate stagnation, the banking sector proved to be the strongest, driving the uptrend for the day.

Indian Oil Corporation’s Change in Crude Imports:
Indian Oil Corp (IOC) expects to cut Russian oil imports in the year ending March 31, as a result of fresh U.S. sanctions on Russian oil producers, and tankers. Instead of this, IOC will import oil from alternative suppliers, observing that discounts on Russian oil have fallen from $3 to about $2 per barrel.
