Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreements (BESPA) for a 250 MW / 500 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System have been signed by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) and JSW Renew Energy Thirty Seven Limited, a step-down subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited (NSE: JSWENERGY, BSE: 533148). The agreement, announced on July 1, 2025, features a 12-year tenure with monthly tariff of ₹2,24,000 per MW and includes viability gap funding support from the state government.
Strategic Energy Storage Expansion in Rajasthan
The standalone BESS project will be developed under a Build, Own, and Operate model within Rajasthan state, leveraging the region’s renewable energy potential and grid stabilization requirements. The 250 MW capacity with 500 MWh storage duration provides a 2-hour discharge capability, enabling peak load management and renewable energy integration support for the state electricity grid.

JSW Energy’s overall locked-in energy storage capacity is increased to 29.3 GWh by this BESPA agreement, which includes 26.4 GWh from Pumped Hydro Storage projects and 2.9 GWh from Battery Energy Storage Systems. The diversified storage portfolio positions the company strategically to achieve its ambitious target of 40 GWh energy storage capacity by 2030, supporting India’s renewable energy transition goals.
Competitive Tariff Structure with Government Support
The ₹2,24,000 per MW monthly tariff structure, backed by viability gap funding, ensures project economics while providing grid services to RVUNL. This pricing mechanism reflects the evolving battery storage market dynamics in India, where storage systems are increasingly recognized as critical infrastructure for renewable energy integration and grid stability.
