It was a bright day for the stock market today as benchmark indices resumed their upward journey, fueled by strong buying interest in heavyweights.
The Bse Sensex climbed over 316 points to finish at 82,814.71, while the Nifty 50 mirrored this optimism by gaining 0.46% to settle at 25,571.25.
This steady climb reflects a resilient market mood as investors continue to find value in domestic cyclicals, pushing indices toward new milestones.
The sector performance was characterized by a sharp divergence between traditional “old economy” sectors and technology.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the Nifty Psu Bank index, which surged by 1.68%, signaling renewed confidence in public sector lenders.
Metal stocks also sparkled, with the Nifty Metal index rising 1.25%. The broader banking space provided a sturdy floor for the market’s gains, as evidenced by the Nifty Bank gaining 432.45 points and the Bse Bankex rising 0.77%.
However, the rally was somewhat capped by a somber mood in the technology space. The Nifty It index acted as the primary anchor, sliding nearly 1%.
Similarly, the Nifty Mid-Small It & Telecom index dropped 0.83%, suggesting that investors are currently rotating capital away from tech majors in favour of banking and industrial plays.
Looking at the top gainers, power and infrastructure stocks took the spotlight. Ntpc led the Sensex pack with a 2.73% jump, followed by engineering giant Larsen & Toubro, which rose 2.37%.
Consumer-facing giants like Hindustan Unilever and financial heavyweights like Bajaj Finance also saw healthy gains of 1.56% and 1.47%, respectively.
On the flip side, the top losers list was dominated by the technology sector; Tech Mahindra was the biggest laggard, shedding 1.61%, while Infosys and Hcl Technologies also finished in the red.
