Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) (NSE: HINDZINC, BSE: 500188), India’s largest zinc producer, has signed a power delivery agreement (PDA) with Serentica Renewables to increase its round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy capacity to 530 MW. This agreement builds upon a previous PDA of 450 MW and aims to meet over 70% of HZL’s total power requirements with renewable sources.

This first-of-its-kind agreement guarantees a minimum of 315 MW of uninterrupted power supply every 15 minutes, utilizing a hybrid solution of solar, wind, and energy storage across multiple locations in India. The project is being developed under a captive structure and is expected to be fully operational by 2027.

The renewable energy will be used to reduce carbon emissions and produce low carbon ‘green‘ zinc. Hindustan Zinc aims to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050 or sooner.

Aashhima V Khanna, Company Secretary of Hindustan Zinc Limited, confirmed the agreement in a filing with the stock exchanges.

The agreement between Hindustan Zinc and Serentica Renewables signifies a major step towards decarbonizing HZL’s operations and advancing India’s renewable energy goals.
