JSW Energy Limited has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) for the establishment of a state-of-the-art 1600 MW (2 x 800 MW) super/ultra supercritical thermal plant. The project will be located in Salboni, West Bengal, and is expected to be commissioned within five years.
The PPA covers the entire 1,600 MW capacity for a period of 25 years. The plant will utilize domestic linkage coal allocated to West Bengal under the SHAKTI B (iv) policy, ensuring lower operational costs due to its strategic location near coal blocks.
Additionally, JSW Energy has received the Commercial Operation Date (CoD) certificate for Unit 2 of the Utkal thermal power plant (2 x 350 MW), further enhancing its operational capacity.
Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, highlighted the project’s potential to boost local employment and contribute to regional economic growth while ensuring stable power supply.
Monica Chopra, Company Secretary of JSW Energy Limited, confirmed the agreement in a filing with the stock exchanges.
This significant development underscores JSW Energy’s commitment to expanding its thermal power capabilities, supporting India’s growing energy demands with efficient and reliable power solutions.
