With a 40% acquisition in Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB), Coca-Cola’s primary bottling operation in India, the Jubilant Bhartia Group has entered into one of the most remarkable tie-ups with Coca-Cola. The deal is valued at ₹12,500 crore. According to Coca-Cola’s policy of having decreasing direct involvement in bottling operations and concentrating on brand management and beverage innovation, this deal is part of that endeavor.
The Bhartia Group, headed by Shyam and Hari Bhartia, will fund this acquisition through a combination of equity and debt with backing from Goldman Sachs. The partnership is expected to strengthen Coca-Colas presence in the Indian market with the Bhartia Group drawing from extensive experience in the food and beverage industry.
HCCB, which is in charge of producing and distributing the entire range of beverages under Coca-Cola’s name, will now be equipped with operational capabilities and market knowledge that the Bhartia Group brings to the table for further strengthening. This marks India’s increasing relevance to several global beverage brands.
