
The Indian stock market closed on a weak note as the Sensex settled at INR 77,860 and the Nifty 50 closed at INR 23,559, inching lower. The market saw selling pressure from ITC and SBI, which fell by over 2%, followed by Britannia, Adani Ports, TCS, ICICI Bank, and Reliance, each of which fell by over 1%. But buying interest was seen in Tata Steel, which surged more than 4%, followed by ITC Hotels and Bharti Airtel, each of which rose by more than 3%. Stocks like JSW Steel, Trent, Hindalco, and Kotak Bank attempted to propel the index but failed due to which Nifty 50 had a negative close.
The Nifty Bank also closed lower at INR 50,158, dragged by PNB, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda, and SBI, which contributed to the index’s downfall.
On the other hand, the Nifty Next 50 closed at INR 63,552, with the support of Jindal Steel, which surged by more than 4%, followed by Torrent Pharma and Lodha, each of which rose by more than 3%. Other stocks like Vedanta, Zomato, Shree Cement, and REC Ltd also contributed to the index’s uptrend.
The BSE 200 closed at INR 10,648, with Bharti Hexa leading the list of gainers, rising by more than 11%, followed by Tata Steel (+4%), Jindal Steel (+4%), Bharti Airtel (+3%), and Dixon (+3%).
The market as a whole was in a downtrend, while the steel sector was the only sector that had significant gains.
