Tata Power and ONGC Team Up to Energize India’s Battery Storage Revolution

In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy landscape, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) have announced a collaboration to explore opportunities within the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sector. The agreement, formalized at India Energy Week 2025, brings together Tata Power’s expertise in renewable energy and ONGC’s extensive resources to accelerate the development and deployment of battery storage solutions nationwide.

The collaboration aims to capitalize on the growing demand for energy storage, exploring opportunities across various applications, including grid stabilization, renewable energy integration, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. By combining their strengths, Tata Power and ONGC plan to develop innovative storage solutions that will contribute to a more sustainable and resilient energy future for India. This move strengthens India’s green energy infrastructure and sets the stage for future BESS projects in the country.

This partnership is expected to leverage TPREL’s proven capabilities in commissioning large-scale battery storage projects, demonstrated by its recent launch of India’s largest Solar and Battery Energy Storage System in Chhattisgarh. By joining forces, the two companies seek to address critical challenges in integrating renewable energy sources into the grid and ensuring a reliable power supply for various sectors, ultimately supporting India’s ambitious clean energy targets.
