Tata Steel’s Kalinganagar plant in Odisha has expanded, increasing its annual crude steel capacity to 8 million tonnes. The ₹27,000 crore investment, inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, positions the facility as a cornerstone of India’s self-reliance in advanced steel production for critical sectors like automotive, defence, and renewable energy.
Strategic and Technological Advancements:
The expansion introduces India’s largest blast furnace (5,870 m³ volume), equipped with four top combustion stoves and preheating technology to optimize fuel efficiency. The facility will produce advanced high-strength steels for specialized applications, supported by a new pellet plant, coke plant, and cold rolling mill integrating sustainable practices.
