AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited (the ‘Company’) has disclosed that it received a Show Cause Notice from the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on September 11, 2025.
The NPPA, an agency under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, issued the notice.
The notice alleges that AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited has overcharged for batches of ‘Symbicort Turbuhaler’ Inhalation Powder, 60 Doses each.
The NPPA claims the company marketed or manufactured these batches at prices above the notified ceiling price.
This alleged overcharging reportedly occurred during the period from April 2016 to July 2025, subsequent to relevant price notifications.
The quantum of claims specified in the notice amounts to Rs. 60,49,79,385/- (Rupees Sixty Crore Forty Nine Lakh Seventy Nine Thousand Three Hundred and Eighty Five only) plus interest.
AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited has stated that it disputes this quantum of implication.
The Company has been given a period of 30 days by the NPPA to submit its response to these allegations. At this stage, the expected overall financial implication cannot be determined, according to the company.
