It was another jubilant day for the Indian stock market today, as benchmark indices continued their record-breaking run with the bulls firmly in the driver’s seat.
The Sensex crossed the 84,900 mark, ending the session at 84,929.36, up by 447.55 points or 0.53%. Not to be outdone, the Nifty 50 maintained its steady climb towards the 26,000 milestone, closing at 25,966.40 with a gain of over 150 points.
The overall mood remained upbeat, reflecting strong investor confidence and a broad-based rally that saw mid-cap and small-cap segments outperforming the frontliners.
Sector performance: Realty and IT lead the charge
The sector performance was largely dominated by interest-rate sensitive and growth-oriented sectors. Nifty Realty emerged as a top performer, jumping 1.67% as buying interest renewed in property stocks. The Nifty Mid-Small It & Telecom index also saw significant traction, surging 1.75%.
Other notable gainers included the Nifty Chemicals sector, which rose by 1.45%, and Nifty Auto, which climbed 1.23%. The healthcare space also showed strength, with the Nifty Healthcare Index gaining 1.09% and the Nifty Pharma index rising 0.86%. While the Nifty Bank saw a more modest rise of 0.27%, it still managed to finish in the green at 59,069.20.
Top gainers and losers: Bharat Electronics and Power Grid shine
Among the top gainers on the Sensex, Bharat Electronics Limited led the pack with a 2.37% jump, followed closely by Power Grid Corporation, which rose by 2.19%.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (Tmpv) and Asian Paints were also in high demand, gaining 1.98% and 1.41% respectively. Heavyweight Reliance Industries provided significant support to the index with a 1.34% rise, while Larsen & Toubro added 1.05% to its value.
However, the day was not without its laggards. The top losers list was headed by Hcl Technologies, which dropped 1.14%. Private sector lenders faced some selling pressure, with Kotak Mahindra Bank sliding 0.27% and Icici Bank easing by 0.20%.
The current trend suggests that the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange are riding a wave of liquidity and positive sentiment. With the Nifty Next 50 gaining 0.81% and the Bse Sensex Next 50 rising 0.79%, the market breadth remains healthy, indicating that the rally is not just confined to a few heavyweights.
