Stock Market Update 19 Nov: Indices End on a Positive Note with Broad Recovery

The Indian stock market closed on a good note today as most of the indices ended the session in the green, marking recovery after last week’s losses. The BSE Sensex had closed at 77,578 showing positive trend with investors recovering confidence in multiple sectors.

NIFTY 50:

Nifty 50 closed at 23,518 with an increase of 0.28%. The index saw both gainers and losers during the day. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) was among the top gainers that surmounted a high of around 3%, followed by Tech Mahindra, which surged around 1%. Support came in from the shares of HDFC Bank as well as Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, among others. On the other hand, the index faced pressure from major losers like SBI Life Insurance, which fell more than 2.9%, and Hindalco Industries that declined by over 2%. Other contributors to this loss included Reliance Industries, HDFC Life, SBI, and Tata Consumer Products. This scenario notwithstanding, the general positive outlook helped the index end stronger.

BANK NIFTY:

The Nifty Bank index closed at 50,626 with a minor gain of which was led by large gains in major banking stocks. Federal bank has led the pack, surging over 2%. HDFC Bank gained 1.8%, too. AU Small Finance Bank and Axis Bank are also in green and took the index upwards along with others.

NIFTY NEXT 50:

The Nifty Next 50 closed at 67,775, reflecting a strong performance and ending the day in the green. IRFC emerged as the top gainer, surging by 5%, followed by REC Ltd and Varun Beverages, both of which increased by over 2%. Other key stocks such as NHPC, Lodha, PFC, and Divi’s Laboratories also posted gains of more than 2%, contributing to the positive sentiment in this segment.

BSE 200:

The BSE 200 index closed at 10,815, with a healthy turnaround. The top contributors were Titagarh Wagons with a gain of over 5%, followed by Delhivery, which also gained 5%. Suzlon Energy, IRFC, and Deepak Nitrite also gained over 4% and added to the overall increase of the index.
