
Britannia Industries Limited (NSE: BRITANNIA, BSE: 500825) has received an order from the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board (UKPCB) imposing an environmental compensation of ₹21,79,688 on its Rudrapur factory. The order, dated May 3, 2025, relates to a 2015 inspection under the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
Key Details of the Order
The UKPCB imposed the penalty in accordance with Section 33(A) of the Water Act, citing a Show Cause Notice dated September 14, 2015.However, Britannia clarified that this notice was revoked by the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board on March 18, 2016, after the company demonstrated compliance with directives.
The Rudrapur facility, operational since 2009, manufactures biscuits and bakery products. Britannia emphasized that the order will not materially impact financials or operations, citing historical compliance and plans to challenge the decision within statutory timelines.
