Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the USD 30 billion Indian multinational, has reached a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy journey.
On 14 January 2026, the company announced that its Heavy Civil Infrastructure business secured a “Large” contract to construct the 3,000 MW Saidongar-1 Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in Raigad, Maharashtra.
Awarded by Torrent Energy Storage Solutions Pvt Ltd, this venture is set to become India’s biggest pumped storage project.
The massive facility will feature ten units of 300 MW each, designed to store surplus energy and release it during periods of peak demand.
L&T’s scope of work involves the comprehensive design, engineering, and execution of all associated civil and hydro-mechanical tasks.
For stock market observers, L&T defines a “Large” order as one valued between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore. This contract further solidifies L&T’s dominant position in executing complex hydroelectric and high-capacity storage solutions.
Beyond the financial impact, the project is a strategic win for grid reliability and energy security in Maharashtra, supporting India’s long-term decarbonisation and green energy goals.
The Saidongar-1 PSP stands as a testament to L&T’s eight-decade track record of engineering excellence and its pivotal role in delivering projects of immense national importance.
This announcement was signed by Subramanian Narayan, Company Secretary & Compliance Officer for Larsen & Toubro Limited.
