Indian equity markets concluded today’s session on a negative note, with key benchmark indices recording significant losses.

The market sentiment was decidedly bearish, as both the NIFTY 50 and the BSE SENSEX closed down by more than half a per cent, reflecting widespread selling pressure.

This downward trend was not limited to the headline indices; the broader market also felt the impact, with the NIFTY 100, NIFTY 200, and NIFTY 500 all finishing the day in the red.

An analysis of sectoral performance shows that the weakness was widespread across the board. The Information Technology sector was a notable underperformer, with the NIFTY IT index declining by over one per cent.

Financial services stocks also faced headwinds, as indicated by the fall in the NIFTY FINANCIAL SERVICES EX-BANK index. The realty sector was among the hardest hit, with the NIFTY REALTY index falling by more than one and a half per cent.

Other major sectors such as Auto and Pharma also saw substantial declines, while the NIFTY HEALTHCARE INDEX also closed lower.

Looking at individual stocks within the Sensex, several large-cap companies contributed to the negative close. TRENT emerged as one of the top losers, experiencing a sharp fall in its share price.

It was followed by other significant laggards including POWERGRID, TATAMOTORS, TCS, and ASIANPAINT, all of which ended the day with notable losses.

Despite the pervasive negative sentiment, a few stocks managed to buck the trend.
