The stock market today showcased remarkable resilience as the bulls maintained their grip on Dalal Street, driving the benchmark indices to close in the green.
The Sensex climbed 301.93 points, or 0.36%, to finish the session at a robust 83,878.17. Similarly, the Nifty 50 showed steady momentum, gaining 0.42% to end at 25,790.25.
The overall market mood remained optimistic, supported by a healthy appetite for heavyweights in the metal and financial sectors, which effectively countered weaknesses in the tech and real estate pockets.
The sector performance was a tale of two halves. The metal sector was the star of the show, with the Nifty Metal index surging 1.99% as global demand optimism provided a tailwind.
Tata Steel led the charge among the top gainers, rising 2.75%, while Asian Paints and Trent also saw significant buying interest, gaining 2.54% and 2.05% respectively.
The banking space remained a pillar of support; the Nifty Bank rose 0.34%, with the State Bank of India and ICICI Bank posting gains of over 1% each. Additionally, the BSE Bharat 22 Index reflected broader positive sentiment by climbing 0.60%.
However, not all corners of the market shared the enthusiasm. Among the top losers, Infosys and Bajaj Finance felt the heat, ending the day as the primary laggards on the Sensex.
The Nifty Media index was the biggest sectoral dragger, tumbling 1.55%, closely followed by the Nifty Realty sector, which shed 1.22% as investors locked in profits. The healthcare space also faced a quiet day, with the mid-cap and small-cap healthcare segments ending nearly 0.86% lower.
