Sensex, Nifty End at Record Highs as Power, Metal and Auto Stocks Rally

The Indian stock market today witnessed a robust rally as the benchmark indices surged, reflecting a buoyant sentiment across the board. The BSE Sensex climbed over 570 points to close at 85,762.01, while the Nifty 50 comfortably crossed the 26,300 mark, ending the session at 26,328.55.

This upward trajectory suggests renewed confidence among investors, underpinned by broad-based buying and a steady appetite for large-cap heavyweights.

The sector performance was largely dominated by energy and industrial plays. Leading the charge among the top gainers was National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), which saw a significant 4.67% jump, followed by Trent and Bajaj Finance, both of which enjoyed strong buying interest.

The Nifty Metal and Nifty Auto indices also performed admirably, gaining 1.47% and 1.13% respectively, as investors rotated capital into cyclical sectors. Additionally, the Nifty Bank reclaimed the 60,000 milestone, supported by gains in State Bank of India and ICICI Bank.

However, the session was not without its laggards. The top losers list was headed by ITC, which faced notable selling pressure and dropped 3.79%, acting as a primary drag on the index’s potential higher peak. Private lenders like Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank also ended the day in the red, reflecting a slight divergence in the banking space.

Despite these minor pullbacks, the broader market remains healthy, evidenced by the BSE Bharat 22 Index rising 1.43%, showcasing strength in public sector undertakings.

As the market maintains its positive momentum, the sentiment on Dalal Street appears to be one of “cautious optimism.” With the BSE Sensex Next 50 outperforming the main board at 0.85%, there is a clear interest in mid-to-large-cap growth stories.
