Dalal Street witnessed a wave of optimism today as domestic benchmarks closed with significant gains, reflecting a resilient mood among investors.
The Sensex surged by over 787 points to finish at 74,106.85, while the Nifty 50 climbed 1.12% to end the session at 22,968.25. This rally suggests a strong return of confidence across the trading floor, with the broader market sentiment remaining firmly bullish throughout the day.
The stock market today was powered by a stellar performance in the banking and financial sectors. The Nifty Bank index was a major contributor to the gains, jumping over 1,060 points, or 2.06%, as major lenders saw heavy buying interest.
In terms of sector performance, consumer durables also stood out with a 2.60% rise, alongside a robust 2.23% gain in the Nifty Realty index. The enthusiasm extended to financial services outside of traditional banking, with the Nifty Financial Services Ex-Bank index soaring 2.72%.
Among the top gainers, Trent led the pack with a spectacular jump of 7.89%, followed closely by Axis Bank and Titan, which rose 3.94% and 3.58% respectively.
Other notable performers included Larsen & Toubro and UltraTech Cement, both gaining over 3% as industrial and construction sentiment remained high. These moves indicate that investors are rotating back into high-growth retail and infrastructure names.
However, the rally was not entirely uniform across the board. The Nifty Oil & Gas sector acted as the primary drag, sliding 1.37%.
This downward pressure was largely attributed to Reliance Industries, which was one of the top losers of the day, dropping 3.41%. Sun Pharmaceutical also saw a marginal decline, finishing the day slightly in the red.
