The Indian stock market today completed the day on a positive note, with key indices registering gains.
The Sensex advanced, rising over 0.5%, while the Nifty 50 also saw an increase of more than half a percent, closing above the 24,700 mark.
The day’s trading was largely dominated by a strong performance in the metal sector, which spearheaded the market rally.
The Nifty Metal index experienced a substantial surge, leading all sectoral indices. Among individual stocks, Tata Steel was a significant gainer, surging by nearly 6%.
Strong increases were also reported by other metal giants like Hindalco and JSW Steel, which greatly aided in the sector’s upward trend.
Beyond metals, several other sectors also demonstrated healthy growth. The Nifty Pharma index recorded a notable rise, as did the Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Healthcare indices, indicating broad-based positive sentiment in these areas.
The market’s general rising trend was also favorably influenced by the Nifty Auto and Nifty Private Bank sectors.
Conversely, some sectors faced mild profit booking. The Information Technology (IT) and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sectors saw some declines.
Among the Nifty 50 losers, the stock values of well-known IT company Infosys and FMCG company Nestle India fell. HDFC Life also recorded a decline, contributing to the underperformance of some financial services segments.
