Larsen & Toubro has secured a large order from Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals, a joint venture of Coal India and Bharat Heavy Electricals, for a Coal-to-Ammonia-Nitrate project in Odisha, as per a BSE filing.
The order encompasses the development of a Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate Plant with a planned production capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day. This project will support the growing requirements of India’s mining, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.
The scope of work includes process licensing, basic design, detailed engineering, procurement, and construction, encompassing mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and performance guarantee test runs.
The project will be executed on a Lump Sum Turnkey basis, with single-point responsibility. This order underscores Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals’ confidence in L&T’s proven capabilities in executing complex, technology-intensive projects.
The project is part of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which aims to achieve 100 million tonnes of coal gasification capacity by 2030.
This mission aims to convert high-ash domestic coal into value-added products, reducing import dependence and strengthening India’s industrial self-reliance. L&T’s energy hydrocarbon onshore business has won this large order, reinforcing its presence in the gasification and downstream chemicals EPC space.
