It was a sea of green on the stock market today as domestic benchmarks witnessed a robust rally, shaking off recent jitters with a display of pure strength.
The Sensex climbed over 1% to settle at 76,991.22, while the Nifty 50 comfortably reclaimed the 24,000 mark, closing at 24,021.65. The upbeat mood was primarily driven by a sharp recovery in financial and technology stocks, signaling renewed investor confidence in large-cap heavyweights.
The sector performance was dominated by Nifty Realty, which soared 2.17%, and Nifty IT, which gained over 2.05% as demand for tech services appeared to find fresh footing.
However, the banking pack was the real engine of the day; the Nifty Bank jumped nearly 1.70%, bolstered by strong buying in private lenders like ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank, which rose 2.69% and 2.41% respectively.
On the flip side, the metal sector faced some headwinds, with the Nifty Metal index being one of the few laggards, slipping 0.40% as profit booking or global commodity concerns likely weighed on sentiment.
Among the top gainers, Indigo took the spotlight with a stellar 4.72% jump, followed by Trent and Tech Mahindra, which both posted gains exceeding 3%. Large-cap tech pillars such as Infosys and TCS also joined the party, providing the necessary muscle to keep the indices trading near their daily highs.
Conversely, the top losers list was led by NTPC and Tata Steel, which dropped 2.11% and 1.81% respectively, alongside Maruti and Bharat Electronics (BEL).
As the market hits these new milestones, the underlying trend remains decidedly positive, supported by strong participation from financial services and the IT sector.
