In a significant move for India’s defence manufacturing landscape, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a prestigious supply order from the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of the Indian Army.
The partnership is dedicated to the overhaul, upgrade, and obsolescence management of the indigenous Pinaka Multi-Rocket Launcher Systems, ensuring these frontline artillery assets remain future-ready.
This collaboration represents a landmark shift in defence sustenance, marking a unique partnership between a domestic private Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and the Indian Army.
By moving away from conventional maintenance, the initiative introduces a structured, lifecycle-based framework for product support. Under the agreement, the 510 Army Base Workshop (ABW) will lead the overhaul of critical electronics and systems, while L&T provides the necessary technical expertise, critical spares, and quality oversight.
The programme will be executed in phases, beginning with a pilot overhaul of a Pinaka Launcher and Battery Command Post.
Once this phase is successfully completed, the 510 ABW will scale up operations to the remaining systems in the fleet, supported by L&T’s sustained supply chain and domain knowledge.
Strategically, this model is expected to serve as a blueprint for future lifecycle management programmes across various defence platforms.
It aligns closely with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, leveraging L&T’s long-standing history as a development partner to the DRDO and the Indian Army.
For investors, this reinforces L&T’s position as a dominant leader in the USD 30 billion multinational EPC and hi-tech manufacturing space, further solidifying its role in India’s self-reliant defence ecosystem.
