Larsen & Toubro has secured a Limited Notice to Proceed from NTPC Ltd for a 1,600 MW thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh, according to a BSE filing.

The project entails the construction of two state-of-the-art 800 MW ultra-supercritical generating units. The tasks will be executed on an EPC basis using ultra-supercritical technology, which offers higher efficiency and lowers specific emissions.

The project is expected to add 1,600 MW of reliable baseload generation capacity to India’s grid, helping meet the country’s growing electricity demand driven by industrial expansion, urbanisation and infrastructure development.

L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, a business vertical of L&T, is uniquely positioned to combine rich and diverse strands of experience in engineering, manufacturing and project execution with a strong focus on providing solutions for power and low-carbon processes.

The contract was awarded through a competitive bidding process, reflecting the trust that NTPC continues to place in L&T’s engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities.

As part of the agreement, L&T will design, engineer, manufacture, supply, erect, test and commission Boilers, Steam Turbines, Generators, Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs), Air Cooled Condensers (ACC) and their auxiliaries, along with associated mechanical, electrical, control & instrumentation and civil works.

The order adds to L&T’s existing pipeline of projects, strengthening its position in the energy sector. With a strong impetus towards AI & technology, customer–focussed approach and the constant quest for top-class quality, L&T has attained and sustained leadership in its major lines of business for eight decades.

This order reinforces L&T’s position as a leading player in the energy sector, with a strong track record of delivering large-scale projects that are critical to the nation’s energy infrastructure.
