It was a day of consolidation on the stock market today as domestic benchmarks took a breather following recent activity. The Nifty 50 slipped marginally by 0.13% to close at 24,398.70, while the Bse Sensex mirrored this sentiment, ending 104 points lower at 78,180.72.
Despite the slight dip in the indices, the underlying mood was one of resilience, largely supported by a significant rebound in technology stocks that prevented a deeper slide.
The sector performance was a tale of two halves. The Nifty IT index was the undisputed leader of the day, surging 2.43% as investors flocked back to blue-chip tech names. Leading the pack of top gainers on the Bse Sensex were Hcltech, which rose 3.04%, followed closely by Techm (+2.86%) and Infy (+2.81%).
The Bse Focused IT index also recorded a strong gain of 2.25%, reflecting a renewed appetite for the digital services space. Tcs and Titan also provided support, gaining 1.86% and 2.62% respectively.
On the flip side, the Nifty Realty index was the primary drag, falling 1.58% as profit-booking hit the sector after its recent run. Metals and Chemicals also faced selling pressure, with the Nifty Metal index dropping 1.10% and Nifty Chemicals sliding nearly 1%. Among the most notable top losers, Trent witnessed a sharp correction, plummeting 12.42%.
Large-cap heavyweights like Adaniports, Lt, and Reliance also featured on the list of draggers, keeping the benchmark indices in negative territory.
