Markets ended the day with marginal gains as benchmark indices Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex reflected largely positive investor sentiment.
The NIFTY 50 edged up by 0.13%, closing at 24,773.15, while the BSE SENSEX saw an increase of 0.09%, reaching 80,787.30 by 16:00. This upward movement was mirrored across broader market indices, with the NIFTY 100, NIFTY 200, and NIFTY 500 all registering modest rises for the day.
Among the NIFTY 50 constituents, the automotive sector demonstrated robust performance, with several companies emerging as top gainers. Tata Motors led the pack with a notable increase of 4.25%.
Bajaj Auto also surged, posting a gain of 4.08%, closely followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), which advanced by 4.01%. Eicher Motors further contributed to the sector’s strength, rising by 3.31%.
Conversely, some stocks experienced declines, with Trent recording the most significant drop among NIFTY 50 components, falling by 3.99%. Asian Paints and Coal India also saw their values decrease, with declines of 1.74% and 1.35% respectively.
A deep dive into sectoral performance revealed the NIFTY Auto index as the strongest performer, climbing by 3.30% and underscoring the positive momentum in the automotive segment. Other sectors that finished in positive territory included NIFTY PSU Bank, NIFTY Realty, NIFTY Oil & Gas, and NIFTY Metal.
On the downside, the NIFTY IT index faced headwinds, declining by 0.94%. The NIFTY Pharma and NIFTY FMCG sectors also closed lower, witnessing drops of 0.27% and 0.21% respectively.
Markets Outlook
Overall, 8th September 2025 was a day of measured gains for the Indian equity markets, largely driven by strong performances in the auto sector, even as a few key sectors experienced pullbacks.
