The commodity market today witnessed a sharp divergence in performance, with energy prices surging while industrial metals and bullion struggled to find their footing.
The overall mood remained mixed as a robust rally in the energy index, which climbed over 1.3%, countered a visible slump in the base metals and silver segments.
These movements reflect a tug-of-war between steady energy demand and a cooling of sentiment across the broader industrial landscape.
In the energy sector, crude oil and natural gas provided the primary spark for the day’s bullish undertone. The crude oil index rose by more than 1.5%, supported by fractional gains in crude oil mini contracts.
Natural gas also traded in the green, emerging as one of the top gainers alongside mentha oil and zinc. This strength in energy prices helped offset the drag from other sectors, suggesting that while industrial demand might be stuttering, the energy complex remains resilient.
The narrative was quite different for base metals and the silver rate, which both faced significant downward pressure. Zinc mini and silver mini were among the session’s most prominent losers, pulling their respective indices lower.
The silver index dropped by over 1.3%, while the copper index saw a similar decline, reflecting a cautious stance in international markets.
Other industrial commodities like aluminium mini and natural gas mini also trended lower, indicating that traders are booking profits or reacting to a softening demand outlook for raw materials.
