In a significant boost to its infrastructure portfolio, Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) announced on 19 December 2025, that it has secured a major contract valued at approximately ₹901 crore.
The contract, awarded by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), focuses on the construction of the New Tunnel-28 located on the Tupul–Imphal new Broad Gauge (BG) railway line.
The project has been awarded to the HCC-VCCL Joint Venture, a partnership in which HCC holds a controlling 65% stake.
This high-stakes infrastructure project is a critical component of India’s broader strategy for the expansion and modernisation of the national railway network.
Technical Scope and Engineering Excellence The contract is comprehensive, involving the construction of a 3.5-kilometre main tunnel. Beyond the physical excavation, the HCC-VCCL JV will be responsible for the complete design, engineering, and commissioning services.
The scope of work is technically demanding, encompassing:
- The design and proof-checking of a Broad-Gauge ballast-less track.
- Supply, installation, and testing of all systems required for railway operations.
- Installation of sophisticated tunnel ventilation systems and electro-mechanical works.
- Development of approach roads and ancillary works to ensure seamless integration with surrounding infrastructure.

The company has been instrumental in building India’s landmark projects, having constructed 26% of the nation’s hydro power and 60% of its nuclear power generation capacities.
With a portfolio that includes over 4,036 lane km of expressways and 402 km of complex tunnelling, this latest railway contract further solidifies HCC’s dominant position in the transportation and power sectors.
The company has formally notified both the BSE Limited (Scrip Code: 500185) and the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd. (Scrip Code: HCC) regarding this development.
