In a move set to bolster industrial logistics and enhance operational efficiency, RITES Limited, a leading Navratna transport infrastructure consultancy, has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
Announced on 2 February 2026, this strategic collaboration establishes a framework for RITES to provide specialized railway services across SAIL’s various plants and mines.
The partnership focuses on two primary areas: the wet leasing of locomotives and the provision of high-level maintenance services for SAIL’s fleet of diesel-electric locomotives.
By leveraging RITES’ extensive engineering expertise, the agreement aims to significantly improve the reliability and safety of SAIL’s internal railway systems.
For SAIL, a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel, this collaboration is a tactical win.
By outsourcing these critical logistics and maintenance functions to RITES, SAIL can sharpen its focus on its core steel production operations while benefiting from more efficient rail-based logistics necessary for its expanding capacity.
