It was a sea of green on the stock market today as Indian equities witnessed a robust rally, shaking off recent jitters with a commanding performance.
The mood on Dalal Street was overwhelmingly positive, as the benchmark BSE Sensex jumped 1.17% to close at 81,666.46.
Similarly, the Nifty 50 showed immense strength, surging past the psychological 25,000 level to end the day at 25,088.40, marking a gain of over 1%.
The rally was largely fueled by a sharp recovery in heavyweights and broad-based buying across most cyclical sectors. Leading the pack of top gainers was Power Grid Corporation of India, which electrified the market with a stellar 7.61% jump.
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone also saw significant traction, rising nearly 4.8%, while industrial giants like Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Larsen & Toubro provided the necessary muscle to keep the indices trending upward.
From a sector performance perspective, the Nifty Auto index was a standout performer, climbing 2.13% as demand sentiment appeared to brighten.
The Nifty Oil & Gas and Nifty Metal indices also saw strong interest, gaining 2.04% and 1.88% respectively. Even the Nifty FMCG and Nifty Realty sectors joined the party, reflecting a healthy risk appetite among investors.
However, it wasn’t a smooth ride for everyone. The IT sector acted as a slight drag on the overall momentum. Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services featured among the top losers, alongside Titan Company and Axis Bank, which faced some selling pressure despite the broader market euphoria.
The Nifty Bank managed to stay in positive territory, closing at 58,619.00, though its 0.35% gain was more modest compared to the headline indices.
The broader market also reflected this optimism, with the BSE Bharat 22 Index jumping over 2%, suggesting that state-owned and large-cap enterprises are currently back in favour.
