Dalal Street Rally: Sensex Jumps 223 Points, Nifty Near 24,900 as Tata Steel, Banks Shine

Sensex and Nifty ended higher as metal and banking stocks, led by Tata Steel, powered a broad market rally.

Indian equity benchmarks concluded the trading day on a positive note, with both the Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex registering gains amidst a bullish sentiment in the market.

The BSE Sensex climbed by over 223 points to close at 81,207.17, a gain of 0.28%, while the Nifty 50 advanced by nearly 58 points, ending the day at 24,894.25, up by 0.23%.

The day’s rally was largely driven by strong performances in key sectors. The Nifty Metal index was a standout performer, surging by 1.82%.

This positive momentum was reflected in the performance of heavyweight metal stocks, with Tata Steel emerging as the top gainer on the Sensex, posting a significant increase of 3.40%.

The banking and financial services sectors also contributed significantly to the market’s upward trajectory. Public sector banks showed robust activity, as indicated by the Nifty PSU Bank index rising by 1.12%.

This positive sentiment was echoed by major private lenders, with both Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank featuring among the top Sensex gainers, rising by 1.92% and 1.84% respectively.

The Nifty MidSmall Financial Services index also saw a healthy increase of 0.81%.

Other notable gainers that supported the Sensex’s advance included Power Grid Corporation, which climbed 3.15%, and Larsen & Toubro, which saw its share price increase by 1.69%.

The consumer durables sector also enjoyed a positive session, with the Nifty Consumer Durables index gaining 1.09%.

Despite the overall positive market mood, some prominent stocks faced downward pressure.

Among the key losers on the Sensex were Tech Mahindra, which fell by 1.11%, followed by Maruti, which declined by 1.04%. UltraTech Cement also ended the day in the red, with a loss of 0.86%.

The positive sentiment was not confined to the benchmark indices but was evident across the broader market. The Nifty 100, Nifty 200, and Nifty 500 all closed in positive territory, indicating widespread buying interest among investors.

The Nifty 500, which represents a wider segment of the market, saw an increase of 0.43%. This broad-based rally suggests a confident investor outlook carrying the market forward.
