In a significant move to strengthen its domestic portfolio, Tata Steel Limited has officially completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Thriveni Pellets Private Limited (TPPL).
The steel major confirmed the finalisation of the deal on January 30, 2026, following a prior regulatory green light from the Competition Commission of India earlier in the month.
Details of the Transaction The acquisition involved the purchase of 90,06,801 equity shares from Thriveni Earthmovers Private Limited for a total consideration of ₹635.13 crore.
With this transaction, Tata Steel now holds a 50.01% equity stake in TPPL, making it a subsidiary of the company. The remaining 49.99% stake continues to be held by Lloyds Metals & Energy Limited.
Strategic Impact and Indirect Holdings This acquisition carries broader implications for Tata Steel’s supply chain.
Since TPPL holds a 100% equity stake in Brahmani River Pellets Private Limited (BRPL), Tata Steel has now gained an indirect 50.01% holding in BRPL. Both TPPL and BRPL have officially attained the status of subsidiaries of Tata Steel Limited as of the completion date.
The completion of this deal follows an initial disclosure made by the company on December 10, 2025, and marks the end of the regulatory approval process initiated with the Competition Commission of India.
